What is NDIS?In March 2013 the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) was created and full Scheme began rolling out across Australia in 2016. Enable Opportunities Support the NDIS and the importance of independence, choice and control for our client’s to be at the center of their life and decision-making process. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a new scheme designed to help improve disability services and provide greater control and decision making to Australians with disability. People with disability and their family will be able to decide for themselves how to manage all aspects of care and support. The NDIS is managed by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). An eligible person (known as a participant) is funded to purchase services, aids and equipment from a variety of providers. As a person’s circumstances or condition changes, they will be able to apply to have their funded plan adjusted. Price Guides and InformationThe National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) sets the price for some supports to make sure they provide value for money for our clients. Changes to prices are updated to respond to market trends and changes in costs and are generally identified through an Annual Price Review. The Annual Price Review is undertaken by the NDIA in the lead up to new financial year, with any new prices outlined in an updated price guide, effective 1 July each year. What is the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission?The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission is an independent agency established to improve the quality and safety of NDIS supports and services. The Commissions role is to regulate NDIS providers, provide national consistency, promote safety and quality services, resolve problems and identify areas for improvement. The NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission is independent of the NDIA and does not regulate the NDIA. Find out more about the NDIS Safeguards Commission website here | What is the Royal Commission?The Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability was announced on 4 April 2019. The Disability Royal Commission is separate from the NDIS Commission, and has been established by the Australian Government to enquire into violence, abuse, neglect and the exploitation of people with disability. An interim report is due 30 October 2020 and a final report by 29 April 2022.
